“She’s a dangerous lady!” Damn right she is. Sheba, Baby gives Pam Grier the chance to strut through a low-rent neo-noir landscape smashing skulls, humiliating mob goons, and radiating more cool than the movie can barely contain. Directed by exploitation workhorse William Girdler, this gloriously shallow slice of Blaxploitation pulp runs almost entirely on attitude, funky street energy, and the unstoppable magnetism of Grier at the absolute peak of her badass era. The plot barely matters — crooked mafiosos threatening her father’s insurance business, private-eye shenanigans, assorted hoods needing their asses kicked — because the real attraction is watching Pam stroll into every scene dressed like the coolest human being alive while wah-wah guitars explode in the background. This isn’t as raw or furious as Coffy, but it may be the slickest and most effortlessly charismatic use of Grier’s screen persona. Girdler’s writing keeps things lean, dumb, and aggressively entertaining, constantly setting up excuses for chases, fistfights, shootouts, and endless displays of female swagger. More importantly, this feels like one of the first Pam Grier vehicles where her power comes less from campy excess and more from sheer cinematic presence. She doesn’t just dominate the movie — she glides through it. A total groove-machine of sassy dialogue, street violence, and killer vibes. Maybe it’s shallow junk food cinema, but it’s delicious junk food cinema.
