Lurid in the most unapologetically offbeat way, Fred Olen Ray’s bargain-bin fever dream turns B-movie grime into delirious parody. Jack Chandler’s bumbling L.A. detective routine spirals into pure lunacy once he crosses paths with a chainsaw-happy Egyptian death cult led by a glowering Gunnar Hansen and staffed with lewd, hysterical hookers. The whole thing plays like an obscene cartoon about exploitation itself—campy, profane, and proudly tasteless. It’s a cracked mirror of noir archetypes, with John Henry Richardson channeling both Fred MacMurray’s sap and Sam Spade’s swagger. Cheap, scuzzy, and absolutely delightful, it’s exploitation cinema that fully earns its title.
